Home energy improvements does mean spending money to reap the benefits of a warmer home. This is where we can help. There are several schemes available that are designed to keep your home much warmer without you having to front the cost. The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme was introduced to assist homeowners with home energy improvements, including first-time central heating systems for those who are currently using electricity as their main source of heating. The scheme operates UK-wide and sets out obligations for energy companies to assist residents with these home energy improvement measures – allowing us to draw down this funding and help fight the growing number of homes currently in fuel poverty.

A supporting programme to the ECO scheme is the Local Authority Eligibility Flexibility (LA Flex) scheme. The purpose of this programme is for Local Authorities to be able to provide further support to their residents through the ECO scheme. This programme allows residents who may not qualify under ECO to benefit from the funding schemes that are available.  The LA Flex programme gives Local Authorities the ability to increase the eligibility criteria to include health conditions, income levels and vulnerability.

In addition to the ECO and LA Flex schemes, the Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) offers another fantastic way to improve your home’s energy efficiency. This government-backed initiative is designed to help households across the UK benefit from enhanced insulation measures, such as cavity wall insulation, internal wall insulation, loft insulation and room in roof insulation ensuring homes stay warmer for longer and require less energy to heat.

By targeting both low-income households and homes with poor energy ratings, the scheme aims to make energy efficiency improvements more accessible. Best of all, many eligible households can take advantage of these improvements at little to no cost. With insulation being one of the most effective ways to reduce heat loss and cut energy bills, this scheme is a crucial step in tackling fuel poverty and achieving lower carbon emissions.
